Yesterday, Human Rights Watch released a report “No Tally of the Anguish: Accountability in Maternal Health Care in India” which documents the poor health care system available for pregnant women in Uttar Pradesh state in northern India, in violation of its obligations under international human rights law. Although there are government programs guaranteeing free obstetric health care, India still has one of the highest maternal mortality ratios in the world. To read the press release, click here.
