Advancing Dialogue on Maternal Health Series
Despite some progress in recent years, many countries continue to face high levels of maternal and newborn mortality and morbidity, as well as large inequalities. With new outbreaks, new challenges and new evidence emerging, we are consistently presented with new questions regarding the most effective strategies for addressing the health needs of women and newborns around the world. The Maternal Health Task Force (MHTF) works closely with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and the Wilson Center Maternal Health Initiative to bring together the world’s leading maternal and newborn health policymakers, researchers and practitioners to discuss the most pressing issues in the global maternal and newborn health field.
The Advancing Dialogue on Maternal Health Series features policy dialogues hosted at the Woodrow Wilson Center in Washington, DC. The events are open to the public and are broadcasted online, providing access to colleagues across the globe. Through this series, the MHTF has helped to facilitate robust dialogue on dozens of topics.
Examining maternal and newborn health policy challenges at the national and local levels is critical. For this reason, the Advancing Dialogue on Maternal Health Series team periodically teams up with local organizations around the world to coordinate country-specific dialogues. In the past, dialogues have been hosted in collaboration with the Centre for Population and Reproductive Health in Lagos, Nigeria, with the African Population and Health Research Center in Nairobi, Kenya and with the Population Foundation of India in New Delhi, India.
