The MHTF is proud to present a new infographic, highlighting the United States’ shortcoming in achieving Millennium Development Goal 5 (MDG5), to reduce maternal mortality by 75%. In fact, not only did the U.S. not come close to reaching MDG5, but the maternal mortality ratio has actually increased over the last 15 years.

One reason for this increase is racial disparity in health outcomes – black women are four times more likely to die in childbirth than white women. In 2015, the UN adopted a new set of global goals, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The SDGs call on all countries to reduce their maternal mortality ratio by two-thirds and eliminate health disparities by 2030.

The U.S. has a lot of work to do to reach this goal.
