Healing Hands of Joy

Healing Hands of Joy was established in 2009 to make motherhood safer in Ethiopia and eradicate preventable childbirth injures such as obstetric fistula. Our model focuses on four program activities: The Safe Motherhood Ambassador Program, Community Engagement and Awareness, Monitoring and Evaluation, and Strategic Initiatives. Our mission is to see new cases of obstetric fistula radically reduced in Ethiopia within 5 years with the goal of eradication, and to see fistula survivors empowered to successfully reintegrate as self-sustainable contributors to their communities and educators in safe delivery. Since the inception of our Safe Motherhood program in 2010, Healing Hands of Joy has trained over 550 fistula survivors, and our Safe Motherhood Ambassadors have educated over 10,000 women in their communities in safe delivery practices.
