The Maternal Health Task Force is delighted to be hosting a technical meeting on malaria in pregnancy that will bring together the maternal health and malaria communities—in collaboration with colleagues at Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, PATH, and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. The 3-day meeting, Malaria in Pregnancy: A Solvable Problem—Bringing the Maternal Health and Malaria Communities Together, will begin tomorrow in Istanbul, Turkey.

Our goal is to provide a neutral platform for dialogue, partnership building, and exploring ideas for increasing coverage of interventions to address malaria in pregnancy in sub-Saharan Africa.

Presentations will cover a number of issues relating to malaria in pregnancy, including the following:
• Assessing the association between malaria prevention in pregnancy and risk of low birth weight and neonatal mortality
• Malaria in pregnancy: Threats, opportunities, and new technologies
• An analysis of achievements and limitations to meeting women’s comprehensive needs during pregnancy
• Coverage and quality of ANC in high-burden, malaria-endemic countries and capacity to incorporate MiP activities

The meeting will also include roundtable discussions focused on country, regional, and global level experiences.

Stay tuned to the MHTF Blog for daily wrap-up posts about the meeting proceedings.
